Finance Director (Flower Mound)

The Finance Director reports to the Senior Director of Operations. This is a full-time position located at the Flower Mound campus.

Position Summary

The Finance Director is responsible for overseeing the efficiency, accuracy, and productivity of the day-to-day activities of the Finance Department as well as providing financial management and guidance for the church as a whole.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for the finance and accounting functions of the organization including, but not limited to, general accounting, payroll, contributions and other revenue processing, accounts payable, and financial reporting
  • Lead in the establishment of financial policies to ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local laws for financial and tax reporting purposes
  • Supervise a hybrid team (TVC staff + third-party-managed accounting services provider), including functional responsibility for accounting, accounts payable, contributions and other revenue processing, and payroll
  • Ensure that internal controls properly safeguard church assets in an environment that promotes transparency and accountability
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner
  • Clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements, monitor progress and changes, and keep senior leadership informed of church financial status
  • Work closely with church department leaders and staff, educating them regarding finance and accounting procedures and exploring how the finance function can best support program operations
  • Drive the annual budget and planning process
  • Administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results in order to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate
  • Ensure that The Village Church has the systems and procedures in place to support effective implementation and conduct of industry-standard audits
  • Lead and manage finance-related projects, including iterative process-improvement initiatives
  • Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with established policies and investment guidelines

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Agree with The Village Church’s Statement of Faith and commit to exhibit a lifestyle that is consistent with the same
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a not-for-profit environment
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant and/or finance MBA
  • Advanced knowledge of IRS, DOL, and other regulatory agency requirements affecting a church
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and dependability with the ability to adapt to a continually evolving environment
  • Keen analytic, organizational, and problem-solving skills that allow for strategic data interpretation 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentation to the executive team, elder board, and church body
  • Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance staff
  • Service-minded
  • Proficient with accounting software packages and digital tools (Sage Intacct, SAP Concur, Google G Suite, Trello, etc.)
