Life Story

I was born in Beaumont, Texas; although, while I was in the 2nd grade, my family moved to Kountze, where I spent the remainder of my childhood. My parents were believers and trusted the Lord in raising my two older brothers and me. At a young age, they instilled in me an understanding of God and His Son, Jesus Christ.

Early in life, I professed my faith in Christ; however, I did not fully understand the gospel or the impact it should have on my life. Growing up in a Christian home, I never fully understood my sin and depravity before God. I used to compare myself to the kids around me, thinking I was better than them. This kept me from seeing my own unrighteousness and need for Christ.

Then, the summer before my freshman year of high school, the Lord got a hold of me at church camp. While I was there, the pastor taught on the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector fromLuke 18. It was at that point that I realized that I was the Pharisee, living my life in comparison to others as my standard for righteousness. That night, I prayed the simple prayer of the tax collector, “Lord, have mercy upon me, a sinner.”

After that, my youth pastor began discipling me. He taught me the basics of the Word in a way that was simple, clear and profound. It sparked a desire in me for theology and learning that I haven’t lost since. After high school I decided to move to Fort Worth to attend The College at Southwestern. After getting my Bachelor of Arts in humanities, I continued to pursue a Master of Divinity degree. The Lord used my time in school to foster in me a love for conversations about worldviews and how the gospel should impact every aspect of our lives.

Hope for The Village Church

My hope for The Village is that we would be serious about the need for intense, personal discipleship among our generation and those to come. I pray that we do not falter in the battle for the minds of our young people. I hope that The Village will continue to be a church that presents a gospel that is evident in our love for one another.
