Also known as:

TVC Responsibilities:
I am responsible for assisting in the planning, leadership, and execution of the Men’s Ministry at TVC, inviting men into a deeper life with God.
When and how did the Lord save you?
I grew up going to church, but Jesus was never someone whom I thought I could have a relationship with. I thought I knew a lot about Him, but that was the extent of it.
When I got to high school, my dad was reassigned to Washington, D.C. for work, but my mom stayed in Dallas with me and my three siblings. This was an incredibly difficult time for everyone in my family. I vividly remember complaining about life to one of my friends, and he asked me if I would consider focusing on my relationship with God. I had no idea what that meant. That friend invited me to the youth group that his parents ran, and I started going every week. At summer camp senior year, there was a moment where I could feel God telling me, “Tyrus, you aren’t going to fix it. You can’t hold everything going on in your life, but I can.” I left camp following Jesus—figuring out what that even looks like—and I have spent the years since then being reminded that God is the only one able to carry everything going on in my life.
When did you come to TVC and what brought you here?
Summer of 2025. A friend of mine who used to work at TVC recommended that I consider doing the residency.
If you had to give a TED Talk, what subject would you choose to speak on, and why?
“What Sleeping on Couches for Two Years Taught Me about Humans”
It would be a talk on building relationships, connecting with random people, and maybe a touch on hospitality. I traveled for work and stayed on a lot of college couches, some were as bad as you imagine, but it taught me the value of asking questions beyond “Where are you from?” “What do you want to do after graduation?”, the importance of learning about people’s interests and worries, and the power of a good pillow.
If you were to have your childhood dream job, what would your job be?
A spy
Which fictional character would you be friends with in real life, and why?
Andy Griffith. He was always finding ways to help when there was a problem.
Favorite Hobby:
