Life Story

Raised in the buckle of the Bible Belt, I remember going to church at an early age but not really learning anything other than I was bad and hell was hot. I remember not wanting to make God angry because I feared the consequences and believed God would be “out to get me.”

In junior high, my family started attending a different church, and although the preaching was similar, there was a counselor in the youth ministry who lived out Christ in a different way. This man mentored me and showed me what a true follower of Christ looked like. In my junior year of high school, I confessed and believed in Christ as my Savior. I still struggled with performance-based Christianity but was shown over and over again the grace and mercy Jesus offers.

I met my wife, Jill, in February 1995, and we were married in November of that year. From 1996–2009, we served on staff at three different churches. In 2009 we moved to Dallas, broken and hurting with the hope of rebuilding a wrecked marriage. God's grace, mercy and love were so evident in the people who walked with us through that season of life. God did an amazing work, and our family is stronger and more God-honoring now than we have ever been.

Jill and I have three wonderful children, Daniel, Dawson and Darci, who are constant reminders of God’s goodness to us. My wife and I co-lead in Recovery Groups at The Village. I am a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan and love being outdoors with my family doing things like biking, hiking and shooting sports.

Hope for The Village Church

My hope for The Village is we would continue to be a place that boldly preaches the gospel, where the mercy, compassion, grace and love of God is lived out in a real and practical way.
